I want to learn a language. I already know a little French, but It's very difficult for me to stay to one language. I have considered everything from Japanese to Russian to German to Hindi but could never really stick with one. I really want to learn something though. I have considered Spanish but I have a grudge against it. I'm pretty sure I want to learn a Indo-European language that uses the Roman alphabet and is somewhat easier than say...Finnish. Right now I am thinking about Polish which I like. Mostly I just want a language with an good country it is spoken in. Please don't say Italian because...of the whole Spanish thing. Right now I am deciding between -Polish -Czech Portuguese(Brazilian or Portugal) Occitan Catalan I like Portuguese and Polish the best at the moment but still can't decide...

My cat's years are numbered and I'm hoping to receive a dog after him. I've never owned a dog before, but my family helped my grandparents take care of their basset hound. I'm looking for a medium-big dog. For grooming, my ideal dog would be one that has doesn't shed too much and only needs profession grooming a few times a year. As for people, the dog won't be alone for long periods, and needs to be good with strangers and teens. I also want a dog that's good for jogging and walking, although we have a tiny yard which wouldn't be very adequate for exercise. I googled dog breeds and I think the best-looking ones are Basset hounds, Siberian Huskies, and Portuguese Water Dogs. I don't know if this is enough information, but with what you've been given, which dog breed do you think will suit our needs?

A publishing company has hired six translators to translate their books into Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Chinese, French, and Arabic. By coincidence the last name of each translator begins with a letter that starts the name of one of the languages. Each translator can efficiently translate two of the six languages, but no two of them can write the same two languages. None of these translators write the language that starts with with the first letter of his last name. Can you name the two languages that Mr. A. can write? Here are a few hints. - Mr. S. can write Russian and Portuguese. - One of the translators can write both Russian and Chinese. - Mr. F. and Mr. R . can write the four languages that do not start with the letters of their last names. - The translators whose last names start with the same letters as the languages that Mr. R. can translate can both write French. - Neither of the translators who write Portuguese can write Chinese. have fun, and the first person to give me the right answer will receive best answer.

I would prefer a site that covers every but if the best sites are based on region or industry, I am looking to move to Porto and work in the Science field. I will probably be moving through work, but I just want to know what else is out there. I have found many English sites for jobs in Portugal but I really want local sites with a full range. I would prefer a com.pt site in Portuguese. Cheers

My top choices are Yale, NYU, Boston University, Northwestern and University of Washington. Stats: Personal: I'm a white immigrant from the UK and my parents have only made it through 2-year colleges. I have no siblings that went to any of these schools. I live in CA and go to private school. Academic: My weighted GPA is currently a 3.75 and unweighted is around 3.6, though my GPA for the last year and a half has been a 4.1 (it was a 3.2 freshman year and has increased substantially every year after that). I got a 2170 on my SAT and was named a national merit commended student. I got a 780 on the Literature SATII and a 640 on the Spanish one. Classes: I've taken English 1H, 2H, 3AP and 4AP; Algebra 1H, Geometry H; Spanish 3H and 4AP; World History H and AP US Government; and AP Psychology. I've only taken the English 3AP test, which I got a 4 on. In addition to my four years of Spanish, I've also taken 2 years of French, and I've had a full schedule every year except for my 8th semester (most students take 2 free periods). ECs: I'm an editor on the newspaper, the president of the drug and alcohol awareness club, a CSF board member (which is a tutoring/TAing club), and I'm a member of my school's foreign language honors society. I've played piano since 3rd grade, and have been teaching myself Portuguese since last year. (I'm also a board member of the Harry Potter Club but I'm not sure if that's a pro :P) Service: I tutor every semester and try to receive around 10 hours of service in each semester as well. Last year I went on a trip to El Salvador where I worked to keep needy kids off the streets, and this summer I'm going to Ecuador to tutor English. I also work every October on a charity founded by my mom, where we lift money for breast cancer awareness and to pay for scans for people who can't afford them. Recs: I got one from my English 3AP teacher, who I got along with really well and I did well in his class too. He is very thorough in describing people (I asked him to describe me for a homework assignment once and his answers were 3x as long as my best friends'). My second rec is from my Spanish 4AP teacher, who told me she knew I was the best student in the class before she had ever taught me (she would sit in on my Spanish 3H class). Other: I think my essay was really good and at least a little unique. I wrote about how I've grown up with music being my biggest influence, and I talked about how music has shaped me into the person I am today, as well as about how I plan on using what I've learned to battle for better conditions in parts of North Africa. My school doesn't release class rank. I got into Tulane with a scholarship of $22,000 a year...I'm not sure if that matters but I thought it was a good sign. Sorry that was so lengthy..I just really want to know!! Thanks a lot for replying :)

I don't know if some of you have seen the latest news about Madeleine so i'm going to post a link. Let me know if it doesn't work. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1254997/Madeleine-McCann-suspect-photo-files-kept-secret-Portuguese-police.html?ITO=1708&referrer=yahoo It has been said in the news that there have been many sightings of Madeleine or someone that looks like her since she has gone missing which with most of them the portuguese police didn't do nothing about. In my opinion i think they should have followed it up or asked Kate and Gerry to have a look at the images, if they would have done that they probably would have found her by now. I believe that she is still alive and is kept as someone's 'daughter/sibling'. What do you think about it? Do you think the police should have followed it up? I think everyone has a right to give their opinions and i think this is the best way to express them.

Whenever it was said, was usually in response to being accused of being racist. I'm white and have a black brother in law and a phillipino son in law... never had a second thought about it... shit I often wonder whether I have Black blood in me as my dad was illegitimate and put in an orphanage when his relatives rejected him at the age of 4 after his mom died. We could never track down the linage of his dad. The certificate in 1925 said he was Norwegian but my dad was so dark, his nick name was "Blackie". We chuckle, because there is nothing that we can find in his linage that would indicate that he was anything other than white. I once swear that I saw something that indicated he was Portuguese, but recently I saw his birth certificate and it said Norwegian He never thought much of it but I often wondered if his nick name alone might be racist in its terminology... Anyway, what about the statement... Is it the word "best"... If you said "Look, I have many friends that are Black" It seems unhappy that whites feel like they are always on the edge of the cliff when it comes to race. That they are always fearing being accused of being politically incorrect. Likewise, I have been accused of being racist twice in my life and it was anything but that. The individuals just were not qualified and I had to fail them. The qualification was in the Flight deck of a 747 and could jeapardize the safety of others. Over the years I had qualified hundreds, and only ever had to disqualify two.... I spent 3 weeks with the two individuals attempting to train them in the skills needed, but eventually just had to move on. Later I heard that they both said I was racist, it angered me as the normal time it took for me to qualify an individual was 1 week. One was Black and the other Phillipino... Anyway back to the question... What is it about the statement....

TNA must receive rid of tbp because they are worthless and have done absolutely nothing. every they do is dress like skanks, do stupid segments and beat up people. They haven't done anything to help the division grow Alissa Flash left TNA because the writers kept focusing on tbp every time and Alissa didn't receive any ring time because of them. No one in the world cares about LVE. TBP are a disgrace to the knockout's division and women's wrestling. Awesome Kong is still in TNA and so is Hamada. TNA fans and wrestling fans want to look the best feamale wrestlers not three blonde skanks. Those want to look the likes of Cheerleader Melissa as herself, MsChif, Sara Del Rey, Lufisto, Daisy Haze, Lexie Fyfe, The Canadian Ninjas and The Portuguese Princess" Ariel in TNA. They don't want to look TBP in TNA anymore. They don't want to look Ashley Masarro, April Hunter, Lorelei Lee, Lizzy Valentine or Amber O'neal in TNA or that real world loser. They want the Knockouts Division to be Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, Sara Del Rey, Ayako Hamada, Awesome Kong, Sarita, Lufisto, Daisy Haze, Nikki Roxx, Lexie Fyfe, The Canadian Ninjas, The Portuguese Princess" Ariel, Daffney, Angelina adore, ODB Taylor Wilde and Tara. I'm begging TNA to fired The Beautiful People and sign more great female wrestlers that can help the women's division grow and become the best women's in ithe world because that is what the fans want to look and care about. I'm am telling the truth about the fans because i went on so many websites and the lists of feamle wrestlers are what the fans want.

I have heard and read a lot about such places as Panama, Ecuador, and Mexico, but I am having a difficult time deciding which one is best suited towards my personal criteria. Below, I have listed my criteria and value weighted each one from one to ten with one being not important and 10 being VERY important. 1) Weather-hot (at least 80 every day)-minimal to moderate rain- 10 pts. 2) Health Care-cheap and reliable-10 pts. 3) Real Estate-affordable, preferrably cheap-8 pts. 4) Crime-the lower the better-8 pts. 5) Close to the beach-should be within a one hour steer-8pts 6) Infrastructure-7 pts. 7) Close to a major city-in or close a big city preferrable-7 pts. 8) In a community setting. Would adore to mingle-6 pts. 9) Language- English or Spanish. Will consider French or Portuguese if conditions right-6 pts. 10) Special benefits for retirees-4 pts. 11) Proximity to the U.S.-would be nice, but not a must-4 pts. No matter what we decide, we plan on visiting first for at least 2 weeks, and renting for at least 6 months before making any permanent decisions.

Well I have the gift of knowing 3 languages pretty fluently and was considering becoming a translator. I was wondering if someone who actually is one could answer a few questions, they are as follow: #1 Do translators earn well (I know money isn't everything but it's pretty important) #2 Which are the most sought after languages, I know German, Portuguese and English, which one would be the best? #3 How is your work routine, do you go to an office or does the agency just send you papers and you send them back? #4 How is the "translator" course called in college, I've never heard of it to be honest. Also is it a good idea to complete the course or isn't it as important as in other professions (I believe it is) #5 Anything else that is important that I should know about? : ) Thanks.

Re-written for more clearness: So here's the thing, I was born in the US but I've studied in Brazil for my whole life. I'm in Sophomore and will be going to my Senior year at Phillips Andover Academy. I was awarded 3rd best student of Middle School. My GPA is "More than 3.0" last year (my school is known almost everyone's grade at the first year of high school - before last year I had higher grades). I will study very difficult this year. I am fluent in Portuguese, English, beginner Spanish and will be learning French this year probably. The sports are my weakness. What I like, Running, Track&Field, is not offered at my school nor anywhere close me, since people here care more about Soccer than anything else. I've been 3 times elected Class Representative (highest - and only - position achievable by a student). I was the Chief-Editor at the School newspaper. I attended Summer Sessions in Phillips Andover Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, IDTech Camps at MIT and Summer Study in Paris (SSIP). Now hear this: In Brazil, we have a "locked" grid. EVERYONE studies Portuguese, English, Spanish, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History. I studied English on a language school at the afternoon and so will I do French. We also have 2 PE classes which are mostly to prevent sedentarism. To enter the equivalent to College in Brazil (we enter Law School, Med School or any other school right after High SChool) we take a test. Sports are not as nearly as important as it is in the US, that's what I'm worried, especially considering my goal to enter West Point. That's about it. Also, how difficult is for me to receive a varsity letter at Senior Year alone? (We don't have Varsity letters here in Brazil). Thanks a lot for your answers! P.S. What are my chances of entering USMA, Ivy League colleges... Virginia Military Institute and other colleges? Thanks bunches! CONCERNING SAT: I am not worried about it right now, say that I will have a 2000 total grade for simplicity sakes. (Note: Mathematics (and academics in general) are known to be more rigorous in Brazil than in the US. I am not opening a discussion or anything, just a note) Tiffany, Thanks for your response, but if anyone else will answer this... Everywhere I read, including the very possess USMA Website, Athletics are -VERY- Important, which is what I'm most worried..

Hey. I'm only 13, but I want to move to Japan in the close future. I'm half English, half Portuguese, but i have a Portuguese passport. I'm currently learning Japanese, so theirs no need to worry about me not knowing the language. But do i need an English passport? Which is easier? English or Portuguese? I want to know what i should do to move to Japan, and around what age should i go? As soon as i receive my university degree? Also, i live in the west midlands of England, so the nearest city is Birmingham. My parents are quite prepared to give me money for courses for Japanese, but i also want to do a job in science. What jobs are there for science? I'm very good in science, i could easily manage As, but if i tried extra difficult i could receive A+ (A stars). I've been looking on the internet a lot for moving to Japan, but i've read that you have to tutor English for a few years or something... To be honest, i don't want to tutor, my mom's a teacher, and know how annoying it is. And standing in front of a class isn't really my cup of tea... Though if it was like private tutoring, i wouldn't mind it so much. I know i need to receive a japanese visa, but how? And where? Also, what is an embassy? I was told that i need to receive/do one if i want to move to Japan. Where do it receive it? Also, I'm a little concerned about being sponsored by an employer . Especially with the recession on. I was told i need to visit japan before moving to receive sponsored and every that stuff. Sorry if this information is incorrect, please tell me more about every this. I'm not too worried about culture, food, religion, because i'm an agnostic, but i'm very much open to concept of religion (Since my family range from many religions). So i could easily change to shinto etc. (Please don't be offended) =) I've looked into moving to Japan, but i haven't found any answers that suit me best. I look forward to your answers... Detailed answers are greatly appreciated! =D

I'm a 23-year-old American coming off a term in U.S. Army, which I have decided is not something I want to do long term. I have an undergraduate degree in liberal arts, but I am working on a graduate degree in Finance from LSE in London (1 year online, 1 year on site). What I really want to do is pursue a career in foreign investment in emerging markets, so I want to pick a place where I can earn a decent living teaching English while I learn the language and make contacts. That way, I'll already have a network and talk the language when I receive my Masters. I haven't really been able to travel much outside the USA, so I'm not totally sure which culture I would like learning the most. It seems like the top emerging markets are China, Brazil, India, Russia, and Indonesia. India doesn't seem to have many jobs for teaching English because English is a main language there, so I'm mostly trying to decide whether I should look into China, Brazil, or Indonesia. Of course, everyone in the news is talking about China right now and how it's such a great place to jumpstart one's career. But I'm worried about political instability and the possibility that China is an economic bubble ready to burst. I'm also not sure how I'd like living below such an authoritative government. But maybe it wouldn't affect me much. Do you think Brazil might be a better bet long term? Which (Javanese, Portuguese, Mandarin) is the best language to learn for an investment banking career?

I am just slightly confused with when to use certain articles. Specifically the word 'o' and the word 'a.' I understand that 'o' means the. But in certain occasions the o is replaced with an a. Such as, A Igreja De Cristo. Why is that? Can someone explain the best they can! Thanks.

In 2006 after breaking my arm I realised during the 9 months of no one visiting me every 68 friends I had in primary school(I was in grade 6) were not my real friends. I stopped playing sports and such and just hid inside for ages. Eventually I went to High school in 2007. I had lots of bullies there and some death threats. I became a nerd and a geek to every my old friends... I was just uncool to them now o.O. This made me feel bad about myself and I felt self concious. After 3 kids did some horrible things to me I left high school and decided it was best to just stay in my home. I spent over 1 year in my home just playing this game called, Tribalwars. I slept about 2 hours a day and didn't care to eat too much. (By the way, I was a vegan) I forgot to mention this earlier but my pal Adam. He is about 3 years younger then me. We use to hang out with each other the most in primary school. every my friends (Well ex friends) use to say, "Don't be his pal. He is a loser" I ignored them. In 2008 my pal Adam took me to this Youth Group and I was really scared... Eventually I went to T.A.F.E(Tecnical And Further Education) I had some bullie problems there too and cried for about 1 hour when this bullie tried to beat me up. silly enough my entire class stuck up for me and said, "You picked on the most harmless kid in class!!!" I was shocked to find that out especially from people I thought would hate me. Over time after having Anti-Depression tablets in 2009 I started feeling better about myself and went out more and started to look after myself. In September 2009 I met someone named Lili. I visited her oneday and in just one day she litteraly cured my depression some how? She is like some nice of Psychiatrist except she isn't, infact she was 100% better then one. They'd just say, "Yup, arrive back tomorrow and we'll look how you are" That was helpful >_>. Now its 2010. I go to TAFE. I go to Youth Group. I almost mastered Chinese and I am starting Portuguese very soon. I feel happier then I ever have before. It's Unfortunate that I broke my arm and had to receive metal plates in it and had to have 2 big permanent scars on my left arm forever. But if this had never happened I would never know what it is like to have true friends. To adore friends and not be greedy or greedy and try to be chilly. If I never broke my arm I can only imagined what my life would like... I'd imagine that I would be pressured into smoking or drinking or even doing drugs. I'd probably be in gangs spray painting at night time because thats what has happened to every my friends. Even the ones I made a year ago. Alot of the nerds and geeks from my old school now carry knifes and spray paint and such and even steal. I'm just glad I was put on the right path. I was never a bad boy at the start neither did I ever want to swear(Which I still don't) I don't have the best life nor the worse. Most of my family is greedy and greedy but that won't cease me from living my life :). I have great friends and can almost talk 2 languages now. I have animations on www.youtube.com/ElvesLie I am a 16 year old buddhist who loves every and loves life. Thank you for taking the time to read this. You guys are awesome :D. *Hugs for everyone* XDDD

Here go some background info: I'm 21 years old and I seriously need a job. I came to the United States with a tourist visa about 3years ago. For reasons beyond my control, it was best for me to stay here than to return to my country. Since I didn't enter the country "illegally" i think that would count for something. I have experience working with people because my family owned a grocery store back in my country. I also have a wide knowledge of languages- I talk English, Portuguese, Spanish and Creole. (perhaps that could help me in some way). I also have a reasonable knowledge of computers. Concerning my legal status: I do have a Tax ID, and I have already filled my petition for permanent residency a few years ago. My mom is a legal permanent resident (don't know if it matters but there it is). Also, I forgot to mention, I have a USA high school diploma if it counts. I have done some occasional jobs, but I'm looking for something more permanent. Please do not answer just to say "you can't work without a social security number" thank you

Im now a sophomore chemical engineering major (subject to change). I go to most of my classes, study every day for everything, do every assignment, receive a tutor for things i dont understand, even talk to my TA/Profs and i still manage to tug a C at best in my Engineering/math/science classes. Im taking Portuguese and managing to receive an A in it since its not as intense as those. I sleepy other areas and hated them (like intro psych, business, and intro bio which really wasnt intro bio imo but w/e) and nearly failed them. thats only half of the story. I have had bad luck with whatever college roomates that ive had. everyday new drama with them and its just sucks. Then I got in trouble with the school two of my professors accused me of plagiarism and also when the security accused me of vanalizing a vending machine (i only kicked it once btw but thats another story). As a result, im on social probation which means I cant join any campus groups or anything. bascially forced to stay in my room 24/7 except for class and dinner, cant do anything socially at the school. so basically, i just need advice as to what to do. I mean i got into chemical engineering in the first place to do pharmacy or premed but that quickly went down the drain since my grades suck. i still want to do pharmacy but idk what to major in or what classes to take. Everyday since i started college was a big bowl of unnecessary drama, been on academic probation a few times too. can someone help me out P.S. I basically dont like anything about college at every. And I really try difficult to keep a grin on. Try to believe that college can be similar to that Asher Roth tune and wish it can receive better, but it never does. Also I talked to a few school councelors and they were just so unhelpful and judgemental

I keep fickling with Portugal. In my eyes Portugal is known as one of the big boys. Recently i've been seeing videos of Portugal qualifying, and they struggled a bit. I just read an interview with Portuguese player Simao and his what his goal are for South Africa. And i just noticed: 1: Group G is going to be difficult to beat. Brazil, because they are Brazil . Ivory Coast is one of the best African country (i would say next to Egypt and Ghana) And North Korea you don't know what to expect. 2: IF they do make it to Round of 16 they're a good chance they're facing Euro Winners Spain. I would say, it's the end of the road for them. Seems like they have bad luck this year. BUT I DO wish THEY PROVE ME WRONG. Feel free to add any other stuff for other countries as well :) And i heard Figo retired and I'm not sure if Pepe is still injured? But yeah .. June 15 & 25 should be an interesting match. & Don't receive my wrong i am a Portugal fan, but they have me doubting myself

Next February, my dad and I are planning to go on a week-long trip to South America during my break week from university (I'll be turning 19 that week). My dad will be 56 next year, so obviously anyplace focused on bars and nightclubs are not in the picture. We just want to explore the natural beauty of South America and look some famous landmarks. Neither of us knows Spanish or Portuguese. What country would be best to visit? By the way, we're traveling from Canada, so the length of the flight might be an issue, i.e. we can't go to Argentina.

I have been on exchange in portugal for seven months & Im not really enjoying my stay. I have a host family who are good people, but they are very closed off. I feel burdensome to them & and uncomfortable with them, but not allowed to switch. Its just like..i have nothing to say. I dont know WHAT to say so i just talk about weather, school, food. They just stare at me waiting for me to talk & i dont know what to say. school sucks cause people dont like me or at least dont want to deal with me because im foreign & not fluent in portuguese. Im trying to learn the language but im not sure how! when i try to talk to people, they just give me a look because i dont talk the language fluently. Im not allowed out of the home except saturday afternoons because the host parents are strict. Nobody takes me seriously, except for a few teachers, who pity me a lot. I feel like im going nowhere with this. My departure date is june 25 but i dont want to just suffer it out, this experience is meant to be enjoyed. What should i do??? I feel my best option is leaving in early april, trying to learn as much as i can but without having to be depressed
