Resolved Question: What can I do to help my lesbian cousin talk to me?

I'm almost 21 yrs old and I'm a lesbian in a very Portuguese Catholic family. Growing up gay was difficult and I always wanted someone to talk to but instead left home young and was very rebellious and mad since I had no one to talk to and was terrified to tell my family. Now 5 yrs ago my uncle married a lady with 2 kids who are 16 (girl) and 13 (boy) and they've become part of the family but they still seem shy about being a part of a new family. Now the girl has always been a tomboy and her (very Polish) mom has been hoping shell grow out of it. However now at 16 she's still boyish and exactly like I was when I was her age. Her "friends" are every very boyish too and her best pal, who she holds hands with and cuddle with on the sofa is very touchy with her and I recognize the lesbian feelings since I had them too! She lives in a tiny town and doesn't receive to hang out outside the town without her parents/brother. So I'm wondering what I can do to receive her to arrive out to me/confide in me so that I can help her out like I didn't have at her age. I want her to have someone in the family to talk to since I know how tough it can be and I know the feelings she has. I don't want to make her uncomfortable so I was thinking of emailing her and telling her that I'm here and will help her out with things she can't talk to her mom about. I can take her out and to the city (basically everything I wish I had) am I right I'm emailing her to say that I'm here? Should I do it in person? I only think the email will let her decide if/when to answer. I need opinions/advice!

Resolved Question: Store policy question (media markt)? URGENT!!!?

I am on holidays in Portugal (in europe) and I was walking around in media markt (big electronics store, kinda like target or best buy) and i found a reasonably well priced high end macbook pro ($1449). Now I want to buy it in Portugal because it seems to be cheaper than in Germany (where I live, also in europe) but Im afraid that if I buy the macbook pro at that specific store in portugal, I would have to fly back there if my macbook has a problem. is this true? Can I buy the macbook in a portuguese media markt and if it breaks can I send it to a media markt in germany? Thanks!

Resolved Question: How would you rate the U.S.A way of life compared with rich Europeans countries?

With every your respect, I have read so many things that makes me giggle. I guess is just pure nationalism that Americans keep saying that this is the greatest country on earth. Well, I agree 100% that it was, when many friends and family members immigrated here back in the 60's, it was the greatest country on the planet. Now if you look at statistics (not opinions), every wealthy Europeans countries have a better way of live than the U.S.A, more vacation time, less crime, etc..etc...No wonder Oprah Winfrey was surprised when you visited either Denmark or Netherlands. I really wished that the U.S.A was the best country that provided the best quality of life, cause I live here, but in my opinion, this is not the case. People here live to work, in many countries like Spain where I lived, they work to live. Right now 40% of people in the U.S.A only have about 100 dollars left after they pay every their expenses according to economist. In my opinion the government destroyed a very prosperous country like the U.S.A, where many people, including some in my family who became millionaires and prospered in the 60's and 70's. * 13 minutes ago * - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details hey,,,by your comment...is obvious that you don,t care much about anyone else....I never forget about what a Portuguese co-worker told me, people here in the States are very greedy...that is a fact...Im glad you part of the 60 percent.....like it.....I wonder how you made your money,,,cause that was not a smart answer... 0 seconds ago

Resolved Question: What language would be best for a native English language speaker to learn?

So, I'm just gonna let you in on this real quick, I am learning German, Esperanto, and Portuguese (Brazil) I am fully dedicated to every of them, but whenever I'm done, I decided to either learn Semitic languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Greek, etc.) or more Germanic languages (Dutch, Swedish, etc.) now, as far as easiness goes, I know very well that Germanic languages will be one HELL of alot easier than Semitic, but I think it would also be a little more useless. If I learn the Germanic languages, it'll go like this Dutch, Swedish, and Danish. If Semitic, it will go Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, Greek, Latin, I know Greek is Mediterranean language and Latin is romance, but that's the way I work. :) I was wondering, which would be more useful, why, difficulties, how many people talk it, and where it could arrive in handy, I live in America but plan on moving to Germany the instant I have enough money. Although I will be moving to Germany, just incase, I'd like to know it's handiness in both Germany and the USA. Answer every of my questions, every of them, not just one or two thoroughly with facts and you WILL receive a well deserved internet handshake, and 5 *'s :) Thank you every. Please don't give me any irrelevant languages... just the ones I noted. I am not by any means interested in Spanish or French, nor any Asian language (Vietnamese aside, but it probably won't happen, it just sounds chilly.) Oh, also keep in mind that I plan on going to Afghan / Iraq if I can't find a job, and Arabic would be very useful there obviously... just again, don't mention irrelevant languages please. Oh and by "going to Afghan / Iraq" I mean becoming a soldier... and going to the war. No, I am not a linguist, but that is an option for me, I want to learn these to improve my overall intellect and to just be able to talk with more people. Though being a linguist or translator may be an option for me, I don't think it of the highest regards. I am actually only 14 and I've almost mastered German and Esperanto, and am now working on Portuguese mainly, but point being, I'm only 14 so I have time to learn new languages while I can. :) Oh, and again, please don't mention any irrelevant languages, I know every languages are nice, but just don't bring them up without consent. BUT I NEED ONE SIMPLE ANSWER, WHICH ROUTE YOU THINK WOULD BE BETTER TO TAKE, GERMANIC OR SEMITIC/INDO-EUROPEAN? JUST TELL ME WHICH ONE, WHILE GIVING ANSWERS TO THE OTHER QUESTIONS! By the way, what's easiest for me as a learner, is easily pronunciation and basic vocabulary, but complex words and grammer mixes me up really bad, yet I do surprising well with remembering new alphabets... anyway, waiting for more answers...

Resolved Question: What if the English dictionary got re-written?

All the silence letters would be removed and stay strict as it's said. E.g hour = our Yes it would confuse people a lot and irritate. But it's a possibility of happening to make it more simple and better/easier (of course it's not better) for the kids/etc. This happen with the new Portuguese dictionary every the silenced letters were taken out and now you can imagine people are not glad, Brazilians and Portuguese are forced to learn this (if they want to keep updated with the writing). I just want your opinion and I'll pick the best answer afterwards. Thanks.

Resolved Question: What language is best to learn out of these?

I was thinking to learn German or Danish. I know Danish Swedish and Norwegian are intelligible is German also intelligible with these 3? NOTE Not every people that talk one can understand the other. Like Thai and Laos Portuguese and Spanish etc. Hmm. I KNOW about Swedish Danish and Norwegian... German is not inteligable but there is a lot of common vocab okay. I have European dictionaries for every 4 and I can look the vocab is extreamly similar some words on paper seem to be the same. I learn languages easily so passion for one is not of importants. I talk spanish and am able to understand much Italian because of it.. If you talk Danish I'd like your nice logical opinion please thanks.

Open Question: What is this girl's problem and how do I sort of deal with it?

There's this one girl in my class that started shit with me the first day of school. she hates me because My two Best pal always hang out and talk to me instead of her. I was setting up the Science room and when I came back she just stopped talking and said i'll tell you later. shes the most racist person i've ever seen. if your Indian or any other middle eastern heritage she blames you for the war and 9/11. she calls this one kid in my class, who is Indian and Sikh, Hindu and in Social studies class she always has some side comment that and that pissed me off. every she does is talk about Jersey Shore or Italian shit when her dad is Portuguese and her mom is half Irish and half italian. she made this one girl sob by making fun of her and calling her a poser when she's the poser. she's always talking about one of the most beautiful girl i've ever seen and calling her ugly. My question is how do I like tell her that the things she does isn't right without creating conflict because this is my last year in this school and i don't want to cause trouble. just so you know this is only the 3rd day of school and every this happened

Resolved Question: best language to learn?

I am going to university next year to study Finance, Money and Banking, as I am aiming for a career in investments. I don't know exactly what I want to do within the sector just yet (will worry about that later!), but I know that competition for jobs is very high. I thought it may be a good idea to learn a language in order to make me more appealing to prospective employers, but am not sure which would be best. I was thinking of either Brazilian Portuguese or Chinese, as both of these countries have emerging markets and I don't think as many people will talk these languages as Spanish, German etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Resolved Question: The Shred Doctor's Metal Songs Of The Day - 10?

first tune is Wings of Flame by the Japanese female-fronted melodic death metal band, Shadow (that's the best possible description of a band IMO, well... I guess Galmet's description as an every-female Japanese melodeth band is better) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S1J451_WdY&feature=related Second is Symphony of the Fallen by the Portuguese gothic meal band, Witchbreed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3gX_8t4JSw&feature=related Third is Gates of Inferno by the Japanese Melodeth band, Ablaze http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vpa2kn1o5jE&feature=related shuffle tune (sorry I forgot yesterday's) is It's Not Me by the Chinese melodeth band, Die From Sorrow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl2m3Z-fj4Q BQ: what do ya think of my drawing of Misa Amane? I may try again later) http://theshreddoctor.deviantart.com/#/d2v1b9a BQ2: name me an Anime character for me to draw and post for tomorrow's Q. (I can try American cartoon characters, but I doubt it'll end well, lol) @Death06, no it's a guy singing, although that would be great if it was a lady, I still don't have female gutturals from a Chinese band yet. and I'll be honest, the only name I recognized from your list of characters was Ulquiora... I'll try but I won't promise anything, lol @Perverse PaRty: that's what I thought when he kept pushing her away... "WTF dude? really? you're trying to receive rid of THAT?" ...also I've never played a single FF game, I have no clue who that is @Death06, don't worry, I have friends that sound like even bigger obsessive fanboys (and 2 fangirls) than you, lol Code Geass looks chilly and I wanna watch Cowboy Bepop I tried watching, but didn't like Bleach I watched, but I'm not good with names, and there's like a billion characters in there, I only remember the main ones ***and I skipped every the filler arcs

Open Question: Do you believe the Unite States should have annexed the entire New World (North, South, and Central Americas)?

The United States took over a lot of the Caribbean and Central American countries at the turn of the 20th century. We should have kept those. Also, when we conquered Mexico back int he 19th century we should have annexed it, instead of what we did do (install a friendly government). We also should have annexed every of South America and Central America, along with the Caribbean. It would be no different from now except the United States would be even bigger and better than it currently is. America is the best country ever without a doubt and the only super power left in the world. We would also help every of the suffering third-world countries in Central and South America (including Mexico). We could have used Manifest Destiny and eminent domain as justifications to completely take over the entire New World, with the possible exception of Canada since it was a British colony at the time and that may have sparked a third British-American War. Also, perhaps not Greenland since that could spark a war with Denmark. Of course, we would eventually annex Canada and Greenland too, but for them we may wait a while. I mean it would be no different from now. We would keep the regional names and languages of the territories we captured, but merely make them states. For instance Brazil would still be Brazil, and people there could still talk Portuguese as a regional language (but with English taught in schools as the primary language). We would also respect and honor the local cultures and ethnic groups of the land. Who else agrees that America should control the entire New World and that we should be one huge democratic country? Now, I'm not talking about a "New World Order" or any conspiracy theories, I'm talking about a good government, like the one currently have. One that is democratic and uses the Constitution. Perhaps in time we could even annex Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Antarctica. Also, I'm not necessarily saying that we should right now conquer the entire New World, but that is of course an option. I am merely implying that history should have been different. But also, in real life, I wish America does do this some day. And I wish we eventually control the entire Earth, and possibly even beyond the earth. We already control the world culturally, politically, and militarily. So why not control it territorially as well?

Resolved Question: What jobs can my mom get?

She doesn't have a high school diploma. Knows Spanish, Portuguese and is learning English. Almost 52 years old. She cant stand because she has real bad leg problems (Something about the main vein in her legs). She has problems with her ovaries which is hopfully getting better within a couple of months. She is a good cook if that helps. Not the best eye sight from close but she is good with far. She is very hardworking and dedicated and she will try things over and over just to receive things right. She is a perfectionist. For example if she is baking a cake and she messed up on the icing she will redo it every over again. She used to clean houses but she cant do that anymore because of her legs. She is also very clean. What jobs can she receive with the information over? What can she do to at least receive better? Can she still receive her High School Degree? Can she still go to college and study what ever she picks? Thanks! (:

Resolved Question: Should I tell her how I feel?

There's this girl I really like. Before explaining my problem, a few details and comparisons: She's Japanese - I'm Black, Native American (Oglala Sioux), Portuguese, Irish She's (maybe) 4'11" - I'm (at least) 6'1" Quite honestly, I'm not that great looking We both like music. She's an incredible flautist, I'm an...okay pianist. We live pretty far away from each other, and although we talk just about everyday, we only look each other (maybe) once a week. She came to me first when she had problems with another guy. Don't really think that means anything, just something I figured I'd share. We have...decent conversations. Neither of us are idiots, and we essentially have the same problems and ideals (We're both Buddhists! Whoo!) She's 14 (15 next May) - I'm 13 (14 next January) She's usually around friends, but we have lots of one-on-one talk...usually about nothing, but still. I heard it's best to do this nice of thing in private, but that's rare when we actually look eachother. Now, to the problem. I really like her, and for the first time in a long time, I'm not just attracted to her for her looks. She's a really great person, someone I can giggle with, someone I like being around. Don't receive me wrong, she's cute, but that's not the ONLY reason I like her. However, I lack the courage to really arrive forth and tell her how I feel. I know almost for a fact that she DOESN'T feel the same way, and I feel that telling her I like her might make our friendship...well, awkward. I'm torn between taking the risk, getting rejected and looking foolish, or playing it safe, not being rejected and keeping this on my mind for, well, a long time. Should I tell her? P.S. This may sound stupid, but I actually wrote a tune thinking of her, and although she doesn't know it's for her, I've told her it's for someone, and she really liked the tune. Again, I think telling her who it was really for would creep her out quite a bit.

Resolved Question: GIVE THIS UR BEST SHOT.."WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT" from now if we had these regimes rule the world?

Just picture how the world would change , analytically ( not humorously , we have plenty of things poke fun at) if these regimes TOOK CHARGE AND DOMINATED THE GLOBAL POLITICS AND POLICIES of the world ( Like how we rule today for the most ) ...the offsets both + and - ve of having that regime. Answer in your possess breath. The longer the better... <> If Old Britsh Colonialists once again conquered , USA, Europe and Asia , how would that change the economy , standard of living , freedom etc today <> If Israel , emerged as a Dominant Power and a Zionist regime totally dominated the world. (Ok I am not Zion blamer , more specifically one who is convinced that everything happening now is linked to a Zionist interest , - not everything I am sure. ) <> If The Commis came back and Russia took charge of the entire world . <> If the Germans emerged with their dictators had global control <> If French Colonized the world - like in Algeria <> If there is a totally different Asian Power like China Japan what took over the world <> if some SE Asian Country more specifically India had global control <> If a fundamentalist regime of Iran took over ( that you need not expand on too much . I can look what nice of sh**t comes from goat heads ) <> If some smaller colonial power like Dutch or Portuguese or Spain had global control. <> If we had an Ultra Ultra Radical Conservative like McCarthy or in the living some bloke like Glenn Beck , giving world policies <> If we had some one Ultra Liberal Person like Ted Kennedy <> If we had some one of principles who did not make it to the last like JFK or Lincoln <> Ahh... I forgot to add the Latinos - Fidel Castro / Alfredo Stroessner and the like

Resolved Question: What country in Latin America should I study in?

Okay, so here's the deal. I plan to be abroad next spring from January to May and *possibly* do a summer program from May to June, roughly. This summer I've been doing my best to narrow down which country I want to spend ~5 months in and it's been a process of elimination based on what programs are US accredited and what countries I'm interested in- the climates, the culture, the waves so I can surf, a little based on what the men are like (okay, so a bit more than a little!) and whether I'll like the quality of life there (fun activities, life style, the type of Spanish spoken there and safety issues every included). For the last few weeks I've been thinking that I'd do the semester program in Merida, Venezuela and then for a summer program go down to Argentina for a month. Give me your thoughts! I spent an amount of time narrowing my list and here's sort of my top 5 but it can definitely be adjusted. One last thing: I can't go to Brazil because I'm studying Spanish, not Portuguese- so that's out. 1. Uruguay (but it's been difficult to find a US accredited program there) 2. maybe Venezuela because the Amazon, the mountains and the beaches 3. Argentina- the culture of it every! The 'alps' of south america- Bariloche, the people, the beauty, etc. 4. Chile?- again, so beautiful! Can someone tell me about the people? Demographics, personality, men?! 5. Could be Colombia- but again it's difficult to find an int'l, US accredited program- OR Somewhere in the Caribbean or Central America? Thank you for your information!

Resolved Question: Do I need a visa to go to Portugal for 12days? .....?

I am a Canadian citizen, currently on a marriage visa living in the United Kingdom. In October, I will be applying for my Indefinate leave to remain in the UK. In March 2011, I want to go to Portugal with a good pal of mine for a girlie trip (she is portuguese.) However, in January 2008 I was refused entry into the UK because I came with the wrong paper work (first time ever travelling, I was an idiot.) However, I returned to the UK February 2008 (without a visa) and was allowed in for 6wks. I arrived July 2008 on my fiancee visa then was given my marriage visa November 2008. Im just wondering, that since I have once been refused entry into a country, if I will now need a visa to enter Portugal for 12days. If I do need a tourist visa to enter (or that I receive one to be on the safe side) - How would I go about getting one?(Since Im a Canadian living in the UK) & When is best to apply for it if Im going in March?

Resolved Question: Are Portuguese people happy with their identity in the world?

I'm from the U.S. and I must say the best kept secret (or maybe in the states it's more a secret than elsewhere) is the beautiful land of Portugal and related Brazil. 1) Portugal has a gentler history than almost any other nation in Europe. every European countries colonized other countries, of course you had Imperial Spain and Portugal. But Portugal did not totally conquer the New World like Spain did, they instead more peacefully landed Brazil by the Line of Demarcation, which really was far more a deal that helped Spain. 2) The Colonization of the African Continent: Really it was the Belgians, Dutch, and British that during the Victorian British era made an absolute mess out of indigenous Africa, forcing them to form artificial countries that separated tribes. The Portuguese broke ties with England and were antagonized by the Dutch during this time....they were again the most tame and if I were an African and I had to pick a colonizer, I would want to be colonized by Portugal! Portugal may have not been a saint, but they were better to their indigenous populations at the time than England, France, the Dutch, don't you agree? In Brazil you look a country that really did not take over and to this day there's Half-native-half-Africans, half-Portuguese-half-Africans, even half-Africans-half-indigenous and Samba and Bossa Nova and fusion of every cultures and adore for a game that fuses every cultures being soccer. And they got this way from Portugal. During WWII one of the countries that tried to peacefully resist the Nazi holocaust was Portugual and the King of Portugal helped secure some of the Jews that Spain's Francisco Franco tried to deport to Germany, and some who fleed from Nazi Europe. Nowadays, one of the progressive nations in responding to human rights are the Portuguese, who have accepted homosexual rights, very tolerant criminal sentences for many targeted groups in other countries....it's a very nice and gentle country....and today it ranks one of the more prosperous nations which it should in my opinion. So are Portuguese people glad with who they are? I really adore the Portuguese, and they also look the beauty in things other countries condemn without seeing every sides of everything. Correction: I got my years slightly wrong with the African colonization. It was way before the British Victorian era that this Dutch-Portuguese tension was going on in Africa.

Open Question: Need help with college questions please?

I just have a few questions to ask about college, and I feel like asking people who are either there or have been through it recently would help me the best. Here's the thing, I only want an associates degree (2 years), and I would like to major in a language, like French. 1- Do I have to take the extra classes like Chemistry and Calculus, etc, that I've already taken in high school? 2- Is it possible, because I really want to do this, to take multiple language classes, like a bonus Portuguese and maybe Italian class? (This corresponds in a way with the question over; I wouldn't like doing this if I had to take other classes). 3- Are there colleges with little requirements for classes, so you basically pick your possess? 4- Can I receive this every at a community college? I want to be a flight attendant, internationally I wish, and I think having even just an associates degree and a few languages below my belt will help significantly. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Etymology of Portuguese/Spanish "oeste"?

Oeste is the Portuguese word for "west." Now, the Latin word is "occidens," but I feel that the Portuguese word, as well as the equivalent term used in many other modern Italic languages is much more Germanic. I'm wondering if perhaps "oeste" can be traced back to the Germanic groups which dominated the Iberian peninsula, as well as much of Europe, in the period following the fall of Rome, in which the Romance languages began to grow distinct from Latin Vulgate. I read on a Spanish website that "oeste" derives directly from the English "west," but I find this difficult to believe, considering how it's also reflected in other Romance languages. It seems more likely to me that each Romance language inherited the word from an earlier West, or East Germanic language. A few comparisons: Portuguese (Ibero-Romance): oeste Spanish (Ibero-Romance): oeste Catalan (Ibero-Romance): oest French (Gallo-Romance): ouest Italian (Italo-Dalmatian): ovest Romanian (Eastern Romance): vest (note that the voiced labial-velar approximant cannot be denoted by a single letter in any of these Romance languages) German (West Germanic): westen Old High German (West Germanic): westar Dutch (West Germanic): west Norwegian (North Germanic): vest Swedish (North Germanic): vaster I think it's safe to assume that the Proto-Germanic was something like *westan. I don't know the Proto-Indo-European, but I think that neither "occidens," nor "westar" are from the PIE root for west, considering that no other branch of the Indo-European family (to the best of my knowledge) commonly uses a native word resembling either. It should also be noted that both Spanish and Portuguese contain direct derivatives of "occidens" as well as this more Germanic word. (occidente, and ocidental, respectively)

Resolved Question: I saw this movie. I want to see it again, but I can't remember what it's called...help?

i remember i was in brazil visiting family, and i was watching t.v. when an american movie came on. i don't remember the portuguese title, so i couldn't translate it, nor do i remember any of the actors or actresses, since they weren't any big names. but it was a typical teenage high schooler movie, probably made in the 90s? there were a pair of best friends, a guy and a girl, who aren't very popular. the star quarterback (i believe he was) approached the guy and asked him about how he could date his pal, since he was interested but he knew that he would never, ever be able to win her over. so the guy sets up a double date sort of deal where he feeds every this information to the football player so he can win his pal over, until he realizes that not only does he believe to be in adore with his pal, but soon learns that every the football players wants is to "hit it and quit it." obviously, the friends receive together at the end and bluhblubhlbuh. i liked the movie, but i wanted to watch it again in english...but i can't remember the name. D: !! does it sound familiar to anyone?

Resolved Question: Have I turned to the dark side?

So last night I went on a date. There's a very lovely young lady, a college student who works as a check out girl where I do my grocery shopping. She's flirted with me for several months actually but, since she's literally half my age (She's 19 and I'm 38.), I was just friendly and never asked her out. Apparently, at one time she'd assumed I was gay. I'd imagine a big part of that was that we'd discussed hair care (she's of Portuguese descent and has thick curly hair similar to my possess) and I'd sometimes complimented her on that and on her very tasteful use of make up. Anyway, I rationalized that, since women my possess age tend to write me off as looking young enough to be one of their sons, usually with a remark about their not being "cougars" or my having a "baby face" (Apparently, a guy looking young for his age is a bad thing.), and women a bit younger either having young kids or wanting kids, and anyway, looking young (she's assumed I was in my mid 20s) so I didn't LOOK like a "dirty old man", my behavior in asking her out could somehow be excused. Don't worry, Ladies. I was a complete gentleman and didn't take advantage of her sexually. It was a very pleasant date at a nice restaurant that I know to be slow but also exceptionally good midweek and slow and silent made for a nice mood. She's quite bright and considering a Philosophy major and we discussed quite a range of topics. She was charming and very friendly and much more appreciative than women I'm used to. We then went dancing. It was nice. Apparently, based on her voicemail, she really enjoyed herself as well. Ah, but every things must end. Now I'm "that guy". At least I wasn't aggressive or anything. Still, best not to go any further down that path. I'm not so deluded as to think I'm some great catch and I'm sure she'll quickly lose any interest I might have piqued, but just the same I'll be gentle. So, how awful am I, scale of 1 to 10?

Resolved Question: What is the best English/Portuguese translator software, learning/adapting itself to the user and the context?

I use free Google Language Tool and free Babylon, online. But I have to correct too much (perhaps 25% of the characters?), and they never learn what I try to tutor them. Desktop, freeware/adware would be preferable, but I would be willing to pay up to US 100.00 if I could find a software that would learn what I tutor to it, would adapt its dictionaries/ glossaries/ rules to my preferences, would improve itself in such way that soon would beat Google and Babylon, needing less than 5% of characters to be retyped by way of corrections. Most of my translations are in the fields of theoretical Computer Science, Bible, Theology.

Resolved Question: Could you help me out a bit with the details for my character, please?

Basically, I'm writing a story that has nothing to do with vampires (cue sigh of relief from exhausted answerers). Instead, it has everything to do with fairies, and I've adapted mythology mainly from Celtic Europe and ancient Rome and Greece to make up a whole load of different classes and races of fairies (or the Fae, if you like) along with a history, etc. etc. This writing is purely for pleasure, it's just a little hobby of mine. I'm trying to kill my character. Harsh, yes, relevant to the plot, also. I haven't actually worked out much of the main framework for my main character, but I need her dying for a part of my plot to kick in. I'm trying to kill her via snake bite, and since her death is in the past, it's likely to be fatal. Trouble is, I've made a list of various poisonous and potentially deadly snake, I just can't pick one! Please select for me: 1) The Portuguese Viper, lives in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Has a relatively low death rate as well as a pretty undramatic name. 2) The Northern Cross Adder, lives in France and Germany, has a slightly more dramatic name but it has a 4% (modern) death rate. 3) The Asp, lives in the Mediterranean, dramatic name and about 10% death rate in kids. 4) The Montpellier Snake, found in the Med, only fatal in severe cases, but has a pretty snazzy name. 5) The Horned Viper, dramatic name, dramatic death rate even in our day and age, found in the Mediterranean. 6) The Leventine Viper, has the best name, lives in southern Europe, and numerous deaths are reported due to it every year. So what do you think? Obviously the location of the snake nice of dictates the location of the character, but it's vital to her death. It doesn't really matter much after wards, because the relax of the story is set in the UK. Thanks :) Sorry if I didn't make much sense!
